Free marketing - well first is your business online or offline.

Offline Business Free Marketing Ideas
- Go online - go to google - type in 'free website' and find a free one and then make a website (most have some kind of website builder - if they don't go to google - type in 'free web design software')
- once you have a website - see below to 'Online Marketing Ideas'
- word of mouth - tell your family, business colleagues, spouses buddies, friends, enemies, people on the street, you name it.
- cold calling - door to door or over the phone - both are free
- Press Release
- write articles and submit to magazines and newspapers
- Networking - trade shows, biz luncheons (you may have to pay for lunch - but you have to eat), seminars, etc

Low Cost Marketing Ideas for offline business
- Business Cards - Attractive - but make sure they have a compelling message - not just boring old Biz - name - address - they have to stand out and tell your customers what you do and why to buy from you.
- Flyers/postcards
- community newsletters
- classified ads
- Join Chamber
- Join other networking or community groups
- create an event
- sponsor an event


Online Business Free Marketing Ideas
- all the offline ideas can also work for online business
- SEO Optimize
- exchange links
- articles
- forums
- FFA sites
- Free classifieds
- Press Release (some may cost)
- list on affiliate sites like clickbank and Commission Junction
- start your own affiliate program

Low Cost Online Business Marketing Ideas
- Get a real website (not a free site)
- PPC (be careful - this can be low cost, but can also be very high cost)
- buy traffic
- buy links
- Press Release
- hire someone to write articles
- write e-book
- create low cost/freebie product to bring customers in
- contest

Definitely not an exhaustive list, there are always new ways to market your business. Some are better than others (I am not recommending any of the above ways, each has its place for the right business and person).
